Tommy was coming off a pretty good season

The talented winger had put up 32 points in his first season of junior hockey.

With that momentum, he had worked harder than he ever had in the off-season. He worked with a skills coach, he shot thousands of extra daily pucks, and he had increased all his lifts in the gym.

He was amped up heading into the season - expecting this to be is breakout year.

But things started slow.

A point drought, a groin tweak, less ice time.

But it was finally getting demoted to the bottom line & seeing only a handful of shifts that he decided he needed change.

We chatted more about how he could shift his training from just old school strength style to a more hybrid training structure, incorporate more mobility, and start to rebuild his body to thrive on the ice.

After a great conversation about training, he finally asked – “I don't want to wait until next off-season, what can I be doing right now?”

This was refreshing. So many youth and junior players don’t even consider serious strength & conditioning in-season aside from half-assed team workouts. They consider development only for the off-season, and therefore miss out on literally 66% of their development opportunity. 

Tommy was committed to getting better now. It was the pro mentality of get better year with every opportunity you can. 

So we created the ultimate strength & conditioning that be doing during the hockey season. Merging training that would optimize his body for performance on game day while also developing the physical attributes that would take his game to the next level. 

  • We swapped the heavy old school lifts for exercises that strengthened his kinetic chains and developed the strength that actually translate on the ice.
  • We added athleticism work (plyos, agility, change of direction, and more) to refine biomechanics and have him moving more efficiently & effectively on the ice. 
  • We structured the workout with modalities like french contrast training and triphasic training to rapidly develop explosive power without leaving him run down from high volume or over-strain.  
  • We utilized functional mobility to not only increase range of motion (and let him play lower on the ice) but also control range of motion effectively. 

We started training to thrive where it counts – on the ice. 

Each week he started to notice little changes – his body started to feel better, his stride started feeling smoother, he had more explosiveness in first steps.

He started to make more opportunities on the ice. Whether it was burning a defender with a cut back down low or driving the puck to the net off the rush – points started rolling in. He was confident in making plays, instead of looking to dish off under pressure. 

Soon he got bumped to second line and PP2.

It had only been a few months, but he felt his entire game shifted.  

Come play-off time, he was buzzing. 

He looked stronger, faster, and more dynamic than training camp. 

He finished the season with over 1.5 points per game. And his playoff performance was equally impressive – earning the attention of dozens of D1 scouts, and eventually offers. 

He had gone from being relegated to a “role player” to a breakout star – earning a division 1 scholarship for his work.

What kind of exercises are included?

Admittedly, a lot of these exercises will be new for a lot of athletes.

This isn’t just a classic bodybuilding style workout where you’ll see 3 sets of squats and lunges. Relentless programs are loaded with integrative exercises that challenge you with unconventional movements. 

You’ll have a Youtube Playlist with demonstrations of each exercise in that days workout so that you’ll always know exactly what to do.

What kind of equipment do I need?

This program was designed to be performed with a super basic gym setup. We don't believe in big fancy gym setups or the latest equipment. This program includes: dumbbells, cables/bands, barbells, kettlebells, and mini-bands. For any exercise that may require a specialized piece of equipment (trapbar/landmine/etc.) we've included alternative exercises guide, but 95% of gyms will have exactly what you need.
